Aesthetic Essence (Cycle 1)
St. Paul’s Burl Gallery begins a new cycle of exhibits, with the 2026 series titled “Aesthetic Essence.” While the annual exhibit cycle has no specific theme, Burl notes, “In art, ‘aesthetic essence’ refers to the fundamental qualities that give an artwork its artistic merit and unique identity, such as its emotional impact, beauty, or symbolic meaning. It is the intrinsic, intangible quality that defines the work, which can be felt as a “good feeling” when experienced. It is the crucial element that transcends a work’s function, purpose, or mere physical composition to create a profound and universal connection with the viewer.” This woman-run nonprofit gallery holds four exhibition cycles each year. 308 Prince Street, Lowertown St Paul; www.burlartgallery.org; open Saturday-Sunday 10-4.
